Glimpses Into the Heart of Sweden: Tapas’s Family Trip with Thrillophilia

Travelling with kids and exploring the world together is one of life’s greatest joys. Tapas always ensured that his family trips were well-planned for a rich and fulfilling experience. After memorable adventures in Italy and Spain last year, he set his sights on Northern Europe, with Sweden’s rich culture and history capturing his interest.

With Thrillophilia’s expertly curated travel packages, planning became effortless. Their team provided the best options for an unforgettable Nordic adventure, covering Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland. The kids, especially, couldn’t wait to embark on a thrilling exploration of breathtaking landscapes, fascinating history, and unique cultural experiences across these scenic Nordic nations!

Uncovering Helsinki & Its History

Tapas and his family landed in Helsinki, Finland and had a fantastic time exploring the city soaking in its history, culture, and vibrant city life. Their day began with a sightseeing tour, where they admired the majestic Helsinki Cathedral and took a leisurely stroll along the elegant Esplanade boulevard admiring the sculptures and statues carved beautifully. Their visit to The Uspenski Cathedral and the National Museum of Finland was also quite interesting which gave them a deeper understanding of the country’s heritage.

One of the highlights was a scenic boat ride to the Suomenlinna Sea Fortress, where they visited the memorial tomb of Augustin Ehrensvärd. The kids were most excited about exploring the fortress and its tunnels which goofed them up. Tapas and his wife also enjoyed visiting the Market Square, where they loved browsing Finnish crafts and tasting local delicacies.

Sailing into Sweden

The most fun part of going to Stockholm in Sweden was the cruise experience. They embarked on this spectacular overnight cruise from Helsinki to Stockholm, making the journey just as exciting as the destination. As they checked into their cabins, the kids were thrilled by the ship’s entertainment options, while Tapas and his wife enjoyed fine dining with stunning Baltic Sea views. The cruise felt like a floating luxury hotel, making the trip an unforgettable experience.

The next day in Stockholm, they went for a Hop-On, Hop-Off bus tour, allowing them to explore the city’s rich history and culture at their own pace. They marvelled at the Stockholm City Hall, wandered through the Skansen Open Air Museum, and were most fascinated by the legendary Vasa Museum. They learned about the magnificent Vasa Ship and its dramatic history of how the ship sank on its maiden voyage in 1628 and was salvaged after 333 years underwater. The kids felt like sea warriors and were gasping at every interesting fact.

The kids loved Stockholm’s vibrant energy, while Tapas was drawn to its seamless blend of old and new. From the scenic cruise to the city’s historical wonders, Sweden became their favourite destination, filled with incredible memories waiting to be cherished.

The Artistic Charm of Oslo

Tapas and his family began their Oslo adventure with a sightseeing tour, starting at the Vigeland Sculpture Park, home to over 200 stunning sculptures. The artistic park truly awestruck them and how the sculptures have been presented beautifully. The Akershus Fortress impressed them with its medieval history, while the Oslo Opera House’s sleek architecture was a sight to behold. At the Fram Museum, they learned about Norway’s polar expeditions, and the breathtaking views from the Holmenkollen Ski Museum left them in awe.

After a day of exploration, they stopped at a cosy Oslo café, where they enjoyed a steaming plate of Farikal, Norway’s national dish of lamb and cabbage. While enjoying the delicious lamb, Tapas’s son confessed that because of this trip, he has found a new love for history and art. And, they spent some more time chatting there, sipping hot coffee in the charming setting, and soaking in the city's relaxed atmosphere. Oslo’s mix of culture, history, and warm hospitality made it a truly memorable stop.

The Most Scenic Journey

Their last stop on the trip was Norway and it was super magical filled with the most beautiful landscapes and natural wonders. They took the most beautiful and scenic journey to reach Bergen. The train ride from Oslo to Myrdal offered stunning views of Norway’s rugged terrain.

From Myrdal, the Flam Railway took them through dramatic mountains, cascading waterfalls, and lush valleys, leaving everyone in awe. The adventure continued with a scenic fjord cruise through the Nærøyfjord, where towering cliffs and serene waters created a magical atmosphere. After a scenic bus ride to Voss and a final train to Bergen, they arrived at their next destination. They couldn’t believe that a journey could be so scenic and magical!

In Bergen, the family explored the city on a guided walking tour. They admired the medieval St. Mary’s Church and Haakon’s Hall, strolled through the charming Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf, and wandered the historic Steinkjellerbakken Alley. The highlight of the day was the ride on the Floibanen funicular to Mount Floyen, where they were rewarded with panoramic views of Bergen’s harbour and surrounding fjords.

As their trip came to an end and they packed their bags, the family sat in the hotel room to talk about their favourite moments. They all agreed that nothing compared to the thrill of exploring new places, uncovering rich history, and immersing themselves in different cultures.

Most of all, they cherished the chance to admire nature in its purest and most breathtaking form.
