Thrill, Beauty, and Family Bonding: Surabhi’s Spiti Adventure with Thrillophilia

Thrill, Beauty, and Family Bonding: Surabhi’s Spiti Adventure with Thrillophilia

This August, my family and I set off on an unforgettable journey to the mesmerising Spiti Valley. As a family of four, including two senior citizens, we weren’t looking for anything overly ambitious, just a trip to unwind and reconnect. We decided to book our trip with Thrillophilia and were truly amazed at how hasslefree and convenient they made the whole planning process. What we got was a beautifully adventurous experience filled with challenges, breathtaking landscapes, and precious moments.

We decided to travel in our own car, joining a group of tourists led by a guide in a tempo traveller. The monsoon season might seem like an odd choice for a trip to Spiti, but it added a unique charm to our adventure. Of course, we were aware of the risks such as landslides being the most prominent concern, but the thrill of the unknown made it all the more exciting.

A Rainy Welcome and an Unexpected Adventure

The first leg of our journey had its fair share of challenges. True to the season, rain accompanied us for much of the drive, turning the already rugged roads into muddy trails. At one point, we did get stuck due to a landslide. While it might sound like a nightmare, it surprisingly became a bonding moment for all of us and quite an adventure as well.

The team from Thrillophilia quickly sprang into action and within hours, they rerouted our plans and arranged alternative accommodations to keep us comfortable while we waited for the roads to clear. Their responsiveness and care ensured that what could have been a major setback felt like just another chapter in our adventure story.

Camping Under the Stars at Chandratal Lake

One of the most magical experiences of our trip was camping near Chandratal Lake. Nestled amidst towering mountains, the lake shimmered like a jewel, reflecting the beauty of the surrounding peaks. After a day of soaking in the lake’s tranquillity, we gathered around a campfire to share stories and laughter.

That night, while my parents retreated to the warmth of their tents, I decided to step outside and stargaze. The chill in the air was sharp, but the magic of the night sky was like a canvas filled with countless stars.

As I lay on the cool grass, my brother joined me. He smiled, and talked about how we used to count the stars and try to point out constellations when we were younger.

 Discovering the Gems of Spiti

The next day we were ready to enter the Spiti Valley through Kaza and along the way we passed such beautiful places that felt almost otherworldly. Driving into the valley we saw the iconic “I Love Spiti” sign and we stopped to take some wonderful family pictures there.

One of our first stops was the Key Gompa Monastery and as we entered its ancient walls and serene atmosphere everything seemed to whisper stories of a bygone era. As I wandered through the monastery, I felt a profound sense of calm washed over me. It was a moment of connection not just with history, but with myself. It was a feeling like no other that I have ever encountered before.

From there, we headed to Hikkim, home to the world’s highest post office. My mom was all happy and excited and decided to send postcards to her sister. Watching her carefully pen her heartfelt messages was such a sweet sight. My brother, however, was far more excited to point out that this is officially the highest point our mail could ever reach.

We all laughed, sharing in the joy of this simple yet meaningful experience. The postcard became more than just a keepsake, it was a symbol of the connections we were rekindling, both with loved ones back home and with each other.

Reflecting on the Journey

As I look back on our trip, what stands out the most is the mix of adventure and togetherness. Travelling during the rainy season was undoubtedly a risk, but it also added an element of unpredictability that made every moment more memorable. The support from the Thrillophilia team was phenomenal, especially when we encountered challenges like the landslide. They not only ensure our safety but also help us make the most of every single day.

Our family trip to the beautiful Spiti Valley was not  just about the stunning landscapes or thrilling roads; it was about the bonds we strengthened as a family. Whether it was sharing stories by the campfire, rediscovering simple childhood joys under the stars, or laughing together at the highest post office in the world, each moment felt like a treasure.

This trip was our first with Thrillophilia, and I can definitely say for sure, it won’t be our last. They played a pivotal role in making this adventure seamless and special. As I sit here recalling our adventure together, I’m already dreaming about where we’ll go next. Perhaps another mountain escapade or maybe a beach retreat? Wherever it may be, I know one thing for sure: the best journeys are those shared with family, and I can’t wait to create more memories that we’ll cherish forever.

Spiti Valley has left a mark on all of us, and I feel incredibly grateful for the chance to experience its beauty, even during the rains. It’s not just a destination, it’s a story waiting to be told, an adventure waiting to unfold.
