In Nature’s Heaven - Sheetal’s Meghalaya Adventure with Thrillophilia
Sometimes, it is the most spontaneous thoughts that turn into the most unforgettable memories. I was chatting with my friends over a video call, sipping tea, when I casually said, “I am getting bored, yaar. Let’s plan a trip together.” There was a brief pause, and then, almost in unison, they both exclaimed, “Let’s go!”
After the call, we quickly talked to our husbands, and they were all in too. It was the best impromptu decision we had made in ages! The following weekend, we gathered at my place to start planning, excitement buzzing in the air.
We all shared a love for adventure and wanted a destination where we could hike, enjoy nature, and spend some quality time together in peace. After some brainstorming, we chose Meghalaya—a place that promised everything we were looking for!
We booked a week-long trip through Thrillophilia, who crafted the perfect itinerary based on our preferences. Along with great accommodations and transfers for an effortless experience.
Adventure in the Jungle
Staying in the heart of a dense forest and witnessing wildlife up close is an adventure like no other, and our experience at Kaziranga National Park was fantabulous. It was one of my top 3 things to do on the Meghalaya bucket list and after experiencing the beauty of Kaziranga, I would say, “I was “jungling” through happy emotions and adventurous spirit.”
Our stay in the Kaziranga area was a mix of nature and comfort. We felt like we were enveloped cosily in the lap of nature with wildlife sounds and lush greenery surrounding us. The highlight of the safari was undoubtedly spotting the majestic one-horned rhinoceros.
There was something truly mesmerising about seeing this calm, powerful creature in its natural habitat. The jeep safari was the perfect jungle adventure, taking us through dense forest trails where we encountered many animals and vibrant birds along the way.
My husband, completely caught up in the excitement, couldn’t help but shout, “What a way to kick off the trip!” and we all laughed in agreement.
The Wonderous Waterfalls
Meghalaya is the land of the finest waterfalls in India and we specifically asked our travel team to plan our trip where we can cover all the amazing waterfalls. Our first stop was the picturesque Elephant Falls, which cascaded beautifully through the unique rock formations surrounded by breathtaking beauty.
Then, our next “fall” point was the hidden gem of Meghalaya - Wei Sawdong Falls, which is personally my favourite one. Firstly, it is one of the most peaceful and serene places I have ever visited in my life and secondly, it felt like stepping into a fairytale forest, that has been hidden away from the world. After a short fun trek, we arrived at the waterfall, and it felt almost magical. The gushing water tumbling over the rocks into a crystal-clear natural pool was nothing short of mesmerizing.I breathed in the fresh air and the silence made me wonder about life. It was a moment of pure tranquillity, a rare kind of peace that will forever stay with me.
Our next waterfall adventures took us to the iconic Nohkalikai Falls Viewpoint and the stunning Seven Sisters Falls, both of which became the perfect backdrop for unforgettable photos. The vast stretched green landscapes from the Nohkalikai Falls Viewpoint, its sheer height and power took our breath away. Lastly, the Seven Sister Falls was the one which left me awestruck with its lush surroundings, magical mist, and impeccable grandeur.
By the end of the day, my husband and his friends had fully embraced their inner “water babies,” plunging into the peaceful surroundings with joy. We all revelled in the serenity and the happiness that these beautiful falls brought to our journey.
The Double Decker Adventure
“Every adventure becomes a story of inspiration and motivation.”
Our adventurous souls were dancing with excitement when we reached Tyrna Village near Cherrapunjee to begin our trek for Double Decker Root Bridge. Pumped up with excitement and a little nervousness, I looked at my husband and friends and realised that this trip was truly priceless because of the people I was surrounded with.
We started our trek to the bridge and it turned out to be the most thrilling quest of our lives. The trek is quite challenging, it descends through dense forest, steep paths, slippery ways, and lots and lots of stairs. We stopped at many spots for pictures and snacking, as we were feeling quite exhausted. But, our guide kept motivating us and we finally reached our finish point!
The sight of the bridge and its roots perfectly woven into the structure was mesmerizing, and all the effort of the trek melted away. I felt a deep sense of awe and accomplishment at the same time.
Nature in its purest form
After all the thrilling activities, we all wanted to end our trip with some peaceful exploration and the serenity of Nature. Mawlynnong and Dawki were the perfect places to explore and enjoy if one truly wants to see nature in its true form.
Visiting Mawlynnong was an experience that left me in awe of both nature and community. The village is so clean and the streets shine with vibrant green hues.
But the secret of the village’s beauty is its people and the sense of sustainable living. We had a great time walking the streets of the village and interacting with locals. It was an eye-opening experience for all of us. After soaking in the peaceful charm of Mawlynnong, we headed to Dawki for an unforgettable boating experience. Cruising through the crystal-clear waters of the Umngot River, surrounded by lush hills, felt like gliding through a painting. It all felt so surreal and I told my husband that I could stay here forever and he nodded slightly, completely lost in the serene vibes.
Our Meghalaya trip was a sheer success and we couldn’t wait to go on our next trip soon!
