A Trip to Nature’s Paradise: Nishant’s Iceland Trip with Thrillophilia

From the four walls of his home office to the stunning landscapes of Iceland, Nishant discovered a new love for Europe, all thanks to Thrillophilia. When ‘work from home’ started, Nishant found himself enjoying the freedom of exploring new cultures or relaxing in resorts. Europe had always been on his bucket list, and Iceland, with its breathtaking beauty and the mesmerizing aurora lights, was at the top.

One day, while browsing online, he came across a Thrillophilia ad for Iceland travel packages. Intrigued, he clicked on it, and before he knew it, he was booking his dream trip. What began as a distant dream quickly became a reality, and Nishant found himself eagerly imagining all the exciting experiences awaiting him—who he would meet, what new places he would discover, and the unforgettable moments his solo adventure would bring.

Wandering Through History

Nishant was mesmerised by the city’s beauty, its rich historical landmarks and vibrant culture. He had the chance to enjoy the city at his own pace as well as a fun hop-on hop-off bus tour. On his leisure day, he began his exploration at the Settlement Exhibition, an underground museum dedicated to Iceland’s Viking past. The exhibits brought ancient history to life, offering a fascinating look at how early settlers shaped the land.

Next, he visited The Arbaer Open Air Museum, where he wandered through a series of historical buildings, each offering a glimpse into Icelandic life. It felt as though he had travelled through time, living the history, observing how the Icelandic people lived and worked in centuries past. Someone also suggested that he must visit Grotta Lighthouse known for its stunning views. The lighthouse provided a peaceful spot to admire the coastline and the vast ocean stretching beyond.

He also had some time to check out the Sun Voyager, a striking sculpture symbolizing exploration that caught Nishant’s attention with its unique sleek, curved design. It stood as a tribute to the Viking spirit, evoking a sense of adventure and curiosity.

To further immerse himself in Reykjavik’s rich culture, Nishant embarked on a hop-on-hop-off tour of the city. He visited landmarks like the Town Hall, Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall, and the Old Harbour. Thrillophilia set up an audio guide for him that was available in several languages, which helped him appreciate the city’s history and modern developments. Nishant loved how the city beautifully combined tradition with contemporary life, making his exploration even more rewarding.

The Magic of Northern Lights

The day was here to witness the most fascinating phenomenon of nature - Northern Lights and Nishant was super excited. He had been dreaming of this moment ever since he planned his trip to Iceland. The day began with a refreshing walk around the scenic surroundings, soaking in the crisp Icelandic air. He visited Ytri Tunga Beach, known for its seal colonies, where he enjoyed watching these curious creatures in their natural habitat. It was quite fun watching these surreal creatures just enjoying and splashing gracefully!

Afterwards, he explored the Perlan Museum, which gave him a deeper understanding of Iceland’s natural wonders, from glaciers to volcanoes. His fondness for winters grew stronger as he walked into the real ice cave, one of its kind in the world, and felt the chills and calmness. The experience filled him with awe, making him even more eager to experience the raw beauty of the land.

As night approached, Nishant joined the Northern Lights tour, his heart racing with anticipation. Under the dark sky, the Aurora Borealis appeared, painting the heavenly sky with vibrant streaks of green, purple, and pink. Nishant stood in awe, mesmerized by the dancing lights above him. It was a moment of pure magic, where time seemed to stand still. The Northern Lights were everything he had hoped for and more, leaving him with a memory he would treasure forever.

Lava Tunnels & Golden Circle

Nishant’s next adventure took him on an unforgettable tour to witness a lava tunnel and the famous Golden Circle tour. The first stop was the 5000-year-old Lava Tunnel, a true marvel of nature. As he stepped inside the tunnel, the cool air and dark surroundings left him in awe of the sheer power of the earth beneath. The walls, shaped by ancient volcanic eruptions, told a silent story of Iceland’s fiery origins. Exploring the tunnel was like walking through the veins of the earth itself, and Nishant couldn’t help but marvel at its beauty and raw energy.

Next, he continued his journey on the Golden Circle tour, one of Iceland’s most famous routes known for its historical landmarks and natural wonders. The first stop was the explosive geysers at Geysir, where boiling water shot high into the air, leaving Nishant wide-eyed with wonder. The roar of the Gullfoss waterfall came next, its powerful cascade of water a humbling sight to witness and finally, he visited Thingvellir National Park, where history and nature came together. The different tours made his experience more interesting as he learnt about Iceland's incredible natural beauty and unique history.

As his dreamy trip drew to a close, Nishant couldn't shake the thought that one day he would return, eager to explore even more or perhaps make this place his home. Iceland had left a profound and beautiful impact on him, deepening his love for his favourite place in the world.
