Thrillophilia’s Perfect Romantic Retreat in Shimla for Chandrika

Thrillophilia’s Perfect Romantic Retreat in Shimla for Chandrika

It was a quiet Sunday morning when my partner and I sat on our balcony, sipping coffee and flipping through photos of our Shimla trip. The images immediately transported us back to snow-capped mountains, misty mornings, and vibrant streets.

A Feast for the Eyes

When we were in Manali, the blend of spirituality and natural beauty left us awestruck. We visited the Hadimba Devi Temple, nestled amidst a dense cedar forest. The temple’s detailed wooden architecture and serene surroundings made it a perfect spot to pause and reflect. Later, we stopped by the famous Manu Temple which was dedicated to the sage Manu and offered panoramic views.

Manali’s Mall Road was another highlight, buzzing with life and packed with shops offering everything from woolens to handicrafts. We spent hours exploring, stopping for a quick bite of steaming momos and purchasing a few souvenirs.

In Kasol, the peaceful Manikaran Sahib left us in awe. The natural hot springs and the gurudwara’s calming vibe were something we still recall. Afterward, we visited the Kullu Shawl Factory, where we watched artisans weave intricate patterns with such precision. I couldn’t resist buying a shawl— it felt like taking a piece of Himachal’s culture home with us. We also stopped by the Rabbit Farm, where we met the fluffiest, most adorable bunnies.

Shimla welcomed us with open arms and a crisp mountain breeze. Our first stop was The Ridge, a charming open space with colonial-era architecture and sweeping views of the surrounding hills. We strolled hand-in-hand, marveling at Christ Church’s stained glass windows and enjoying the lively buzz of street vendors and tourists.

Mall Road and Lakkar Bazar offered us a good mix of shopping and local charm. We spent hours wandering through the streets, picking up handcrafted wooden souvenirs and indulging in piping hot gulab jamuns from a street vendor.

The next day, we ventured to Kufri, a short drive from Shimla. It felt like stepping into a postcard— rolling hills, tall deodar trees, and a blanket of mist. Hasan Valley, known for its dense forests and captivating views, was a gem. We found ourselves lost in the beauty of Green Valley and Fagu Valley, both offering breathtaking panoramas that made us feel like we were floating amidst the clouds.

Not to forget, we also visited the Himalayan Mini Zoo where we spotted rare animals like the snow leopard and Himalayan monal. My partner joked about adopting a monal, saying, “It’s practically a rainbow with wings!”

Each of these places added a unique flavor to our journey, making it a feast for the eyes and soul.

Thrills Around Every Corner

Adventure was the spice of our trip, and it started with the drive itself. The winding roads, with their sharp turns and breathtaking views, were both thrilling and nerve-wracking. “Hold on tight!” my partner teased as he expertly navigated a particularly tricky stretch.

In Kasol, we decided to try river rafting on the Parvati River. The icy water splashing against our faces and the thrill of navigating the rapids made it an experience to remember. “We’re pros now!” my partner declared as we successfully completed the course, though I’m sure our guide did most of the work.

Our day at Solang Valley was a whirlwind of excitement. The valley was blanketed in snow, and the energy was infectious. We tried skiing for the first time, which led to plenty of tumbles and laughter. “I think I’ve invented a new move— ski-falling!” I joked after my umpteenth fall.

Snowboarding was another adventure, though my partner seemed to have a natural knack for it. Watching him glide down the slopes was impressive, though I was more focused on not tumbling headfirst into the snow. We also tried zorbing, which had us rolling downhill inside a giant transparent ball, laughing uncontrollably the entire time.

A Culinary Love Affair

No trip is complete without indulging in local cuisine. Shimla’s Mall Road was a foodie’s paradise, with stalls offering everything from steaming momos to spicy chaat. One evening, we shared a plate of hot pakoras while watching the hustle and bustle of the market.

In Manali, we discovered a cozy café that served the best butter tea and thukpa we’d ever had. “This is comfort in a bowl,” I said, savoring the rich flavors. My partner, meanwhile, couldn’t get enough of the Himachali siddu.

Kasol introduced us to some really good Israeli cuisine, thanks to its vibrant café culture. We tried shakshuka and falafel, both of which were a delightful surprise.

Our evenings often ended with dessert— a warm apple strudel in Shimla, chocolate pancakes in Manali, or simply a cup of hot chocolate under the starry sky. Each meal was a celebration of flavors, and each bite added to the joy of our journey.
