Awasthi Family’s Dreamy Journey Through Kashmir’s Paradise with Thrillophilia

“Kashmir…!”

The mere mention of it brings a sense of peace and natural beauty that can leave anyone speechless.

This wasn’t my first visit to Kashmir, however, the excitement was doubled as this time I was experiencing it with my wife and kids. I was very excited for my energetic son and curious daughter to finally see the beauty of the place that I always spoke so highly of.

Rediscovering Kashmir’s Timeless Beauty!

Years ago, when I was in the prime of my youth, I explored Kashmir's serene valleys with friends. We stayed in gorgeous cottages and soaked in the charm of the ‘paradise on earth’

This time, I visited the same serene valleys again with my wife. It turned into a trip so remarkable that it left me wondering, "Who’s more beautiful, Kashmir or her?"

Irrespective of the answer, this trip was truly special for me and my family. I wasn’t just a traveller- I was a father, sharing the magic of Kashmir with my kids. Watching their sparkling eyes wonder at the Himalayan peaks and the tranquil Dal Lake made me feel like I was rediscovering Kashmir all over again.

Unlike my first visit when I stayed mostly in camps and guest houses, I wanted this trip to be a mix of comfort and adventure for my family. So, I opted for Thrillophilia and they truly exceeded my expectations. From cosy hotel stays to specifically curated experiences like bonfires and Shikara rides, they ensured our journey was both seamless and memorable.

Gliding Through Paradise!

One of the most memorable moments of our trip was the iconic Shikara ride on Dal Lake. As soon as we stepped inside the beautifully decorated houseboat, my children started grinning eye to eye, whereas, my wife simply leaned back, soaking in the cool and refreshing breeze.

As the Shikara gently glided over the calm waters, we passed the Mughal gardens, vibrant houseboats, and a lively floating flower market. My son, staring at the mountain reflections on the water, exclaimed, “Dad, it looks like the mountains are swimming!” We all laughed at his statement but, honestly, it did seem like that!

The peaceful ambience, enhanced by the occasional chirping of the birds and soft chatter of people in the distance, made us feel like we had stepped into a living painting.

Our boatman, who turned out to be a great storyteller as well, shared tales about the lake—some rooted in history, while others seeped in mysticism. Intrigued, my daughter asked further if the mountains held any secrets. To which he replied,

“Every peak whispers its story, you just need to listen.”

Gulmarg Adventures: From Saddles to Snowballs!

Hands down, Gulmarg with its pristine meadows and glistening snow became our favourite destination for this trip!

My son’s eyes lit up with excitement as soon as he spotted some horses on the field. And immediately after, my son and daughter both were riding the ponies with a huge smile lighting up their faces.

As I recorded them struggling to get comfortable on the pony back, my son yelled, “Look, Dad, I am a cowboy!”

The highlight of our Gulmarg visit was the scenic gondola ride. During the ascend to the peak, I let my kids know that they are currently sitting in Asia’s highest cable car. For a while, time seemed to stand still as we watched the snow-covered peaks spread out like a breathtaking canvas.

The actual fun began when we reached the snowy peak. The kids and I dove straight into a snowball fight and our laughter echoed loud in the valley. My wife, on the other hand, gracefully dodging each snowball, captured these beautiful moments on her phone.

Bollywood comes to life in Pahalgam!

Pahalgam, fondly known as the 'Valley of Shepherds,' was a destination that felt like stepping into a dream. Its serene beauty and charm left us in awe.

We began our day with a drive to the enchanting Aru Valley. The kids, brimming with excitement, literally raced to explore the rolling meadows, while my wife and I stood mesmerised by the majestic mountains that surrounded us.

Next, we visited the picturesque Betaab Valley. For those of you who don’t know- this place has been used in a lot of Bollywood movies like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Haider and Highway.  My wife and I had a hearty conversation reminiscing about the classic movies filmed here, while the kids were mesmerised by the sight of the Lidder River meandering through the valley.

Our final stop was Chandanwari where our kids were eager to visit the Snow Bridge, whereas, my wife and I, stood at the starting point of the Amarnath Yatra trail, embracing the spiritual aura of the place.

Until We Meet Again…!

Our final day in Srinagar was filled with mixed emotions. After a delicious breakfast on the houseboat, we packed up, though none of us wanted to leave.

This trip wasn’t just about the stunning sights—it was about the cherished memories, the laughter, and the moments of calm we shared together.

As we boarded the flight home, my daughter looked out the window and asked, “Dad, when can we come back?”

I smiled and replied, “Soon, sweetheart.”
