Amey’s Peaceful Excursion to Northeast India with Thrillophilia

Vacations are a way of connecting with ourselves and each other, creating memories, dwelling in nature, and rejuvenating in a peaceful time.

Amey and his wife are engineers, and they decided to take a week-long vacation to spend quality time together and take a break from their otherwise busy lives.

They both are true explorers and nature lovers, hence their eight-day trip to Gangtok, Pelling, and Darjeeling was nothing short of discovering a new land. They immersed themselves in the breathtaking natural beauty and indulged in delectable cuisine while engaging with local people and listening to their stories. The couple delved into the historical side of the cities and cherished tranquil moments in the lap of nature.

Perfect Blend of History, City Life, & Nature

From day 1, Amey and his wife were awestruck by the beauty of Gangtok and how it is a perfect intersection of modern times, simple living, and rich culture.

Their time in Gangtok began with an adventurous activity, rafting in the Teesta River, and ended with a peaceful and picturesque vantage point at Tsomgo Lake.

Their exploration took many turns and was filled with a few learning experiences like a visit to the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom and a few historic sacred sites like Ganesh Tok and Baba Mandir.

The most idyllic and magical experience was standing in awe of the 100-foot waterfall in Ban Jhakri Falls Park. The uniqueness and significance of the park and the sheer power of the cascading water was an impeccable combination. Sitting by the waterfall and listening to the soothing sound it created and the vibrant rainbow dancing in the mist truly became an enchanting and unforgettable memory.

Prayers & Peace

Gangtok and Pelling, on the other hand, are home to many beautiful monasteries.

Their visit to the famous Institute of Tibetology offered them a deeper insight into the rich history, culture, language, and Tibetan art. From the four walls of their office to a world of a new culture, Amey and his wife were enthusiastic about learning all the tidbits about Tibetan culture.

Mountains and monasteries have a really positive ring to them, as both mountains and monasteries are places of peace and prayers.

For Amey’s wife, the vacation was enhanced by the visit to Pemayangtse Monastery, one of the oldest and most beautiful ones in Pelling, Sikkim. Its colourful murals and the ornate statues were an addition to its charm.

And, their visit to Khecheopalri Lake left the deepest impression in their hearts. Known as the ‘wish-fulfilling lake’, this spiritually enriching spot held a 3500-year-old tradition of healing and wish-making. The experience of praying and meditating in this mystical setting felt truly magical.

The beauty of Northeast India was bringing out the philosopher Amey, and what adventure awaited them added an amazing charm to their trip. Their stop at the Kanchenjunga Waterfall turned out to be quite adventurous as well as romantic. They trekked through the narrow paths, holding hands, and it felt like a perfect combination of love and thrill.

The views were mesmerising, and the waterfall was even more beautiful than described in stories and blogs.

A Dreamy End in Queen of the Hills

The trip was nearing its end and Darjeeling’s tea estates and hills were calling out to them, to conclude the trip with a bang!

Leaving Pelling behind, they embarked on their journey to Darjeeling. Even before reaching the city, Amey knew that it was going to be worth every minute as the way to Darjeeling was impeccably breathtaking.

The majestic snow-covered Himalayan peaks, lush greenery, and scenic views at every turn made their voyage even more awesome. And the anticipation of what lay ahead filled both of them with excitement.

Their itinerary covered every nook of the city including all the famous sightseeing places including a tour of the tea gardens, sunrise from Tiger Hill, Ghoom Monastery, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling Zoo and Tenzing Rock.

Being extreme nature lovers, they absolutely loved the golden sunrise overlooking the grand Mt. Kanchenjunga from Tiger Hill. The tangerine and yellow hues of the rising sun seemed like a masterpiece of art, painted on the canvas of the Himalayan sky.

Roaming and exploring the historic sites and visiting sacred monasteries was the perfect blend of history, nature, peace, and culture. And, of course, they couldn't miss a visit to "The Mall Road," a must-see in every hill station. Here, they indulged in local delicacies, including the famous momos with spicy chutney, a favourite of both of them.

Their long-awaited peaceful, nature-filled getaway went with utmost ease, allowing them to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and find peace in the arms of nature and each other.“Nature has a way of helping you find yourself, and mountains may have the answers you seek!”
